A standard 120-volt outlet adds roughly three to five miles of range per hour to most electric vehicles. For daily drivers, that means a depleted battery can take the better part of two days to fully charge. A Level 2 charger on a dedicated 240-volt circuit changes the math, typically delivering 20 to 30 miles of range per hour and making overnight charging practical for virtually any daily driving routine.
Installing a Level 2 charger is an electrical project, not a simple plug-in upgrade. It requires a dedicated 240-volt circuit, proper wiring run to your charger location, and in most cases a permit. Here is what the process looks like:
A number of older Nazareth properties still have 100-amp service, which may already be running near its limit. Adding a Level 2 EV charger draws real power, and if your panel does not have the headroom, the charger may not be supportable without an upgrade first.
We always assess your panel before recommending or starting any EV charger installation. If an upgrade is needed we will walk you through the options and costs before you commit to anything. Load management solutions that allow a charger to share capacity with other circuits are sometimes a less expensive alternative to a full panel upgrade.
Most homeowners install their charger in the garage or on an exterior wall near their parking area. For Nazareth properties where the panel is far from the parking area, or where the garage is detached, the wiring run may be more involved. We assess your specific setup before any work begins.
Most Level 2 chargers use a standard J1772 connector that works with the majority of electric vehicles. Tesla vehicles use a different connector but come with an adapter. We are brand-agnostic and can install any hardwired Level 2 charger. If you have not purchased a unit yet, we can help you think through the options based on your vehicle and your home’s setup.
