Whether you’re swapping out a dated fixture, installing a chandelier in a dining room, or adding recessed lighting to a space that’s never had it, Kelley Electric handles light fixture installation and repair for homeowners throughout Allentown and the Lehigh Valley area. We work on all types of residential fixtures and make sure everything is wired correctly and working properly before we leave.
Light Fixture Installation
We install all types of interior light fixtures for Allentown and Lehigh Valley homeowners. If you have a fixture picked out, we’ll get it installed. If you’re not sure what will work best in a particular space, we’re happy to talk through the options.
Fixture types we commonly install include:
- Chandeliers and pendant lights
- Flush mount and semi-flush mount ceiling fixtures
- Recessed downlights
- Under-cabinet lighting
- Vanity and bathroom fixtures
- Track lighting
- Exterior fixtures and porch lights
Heavier fixtures like chandeliers require a properly rated electrical box in the ceiling that can support the weight. If yours isn’t rated for it, we’ll swap it out as part of the installation so everything is secure and up to code.
Recessed Lighting
Recessed downlights are one of the more popular fixture upgrades we install for homeowners across Allentown and the Lehigh Valley. They give a room a clean, modern look and work well in kitchens, living rooms, hallways, and bathrooms. Adding recessed lighting to a room that doesn’t currently have it involves running new wiring, which we handle from start to finish. We’ll also make sure the fixtures are spaced and aimed correctly for even, glare-free coverage.
Light Fixture Repair
A fixture that flickers, buzzes, won’t turn on, or has stopped working the way it should doesn’t always need to be replaced. Many common fixture problems come down to a loose connection, a failing socket, or a compatibility issue between the fixture and the bulbs or dimmer it’s paired with. We’ll diagnose the actual problem and give you an honest take on whether a repair makes sense or whether replacing the fixture is the better call.

For a straightforward swap where you're replacing an existing fixture with a new one on the same wiring, many homeowners handle it themselves. But if you're installing a fixture where there isn't one, adding recessed lighting, or working with a heavy fixture like a chandelier that requires a rated electrical box, it's worth having an electrician handle it to make sure everything is done safely and correctly.
Flush mount fixtures sit flat against the ceiling with no gap between the fixture and the ceiling surface. Semi-flush mount fixtures hang down a few inches on a short stem. Flush mount fixtures work well in rooms with lower ceilings where clearance is a concern. Semi-flush fixtures work better in rooms with higher ceilings where a flush mount would look proportionally too small.
Yes, in most cases. The main consideration is whether the existing electrical box is rated to support the weight of a chandelier. Standard light fixture boxes are typically not rated for heavier fixtures. If yours isn't, we'll install a fan and fixture rated box as part of the chandelier installation to make sure it's properly supported.
A general rule of thumb is to divide the ceiling height in half to get the spacing between fixtures. So in a room with an 8-foot ceiling, lights should be spaced roughly 4 feet apart. The number of fixtures also depends on the size of the room and how bright you want the space. We'll help you figure out the right layout when we assess the room.
If you've ruled out the bulb, the issue is likely a loose connection at the fixture, a problem at the switch, or a compatibility issue between a dimmer switch and the bulbs being used. Not all bulbs work well with all dimmers, and the wrong pairing causes flickering even when everything else is functioning correctly. We can track down the source and get it sorted out.
In many cases a failed socket can be replaced without swapping out the entire fixture, particularly on older or higher-end fixtures worth preserving. If the fixture itself is damaged or the repair cost approaches the price of a comparable new fixture, replacement usually makes more sense. We'll give you a straight answer on which direction is worth it.
Yes. If you've already purchased a fixture and want it professionally installed, we're happy to handle it. Just make sure it's the right fixture for the location, particularly for bathroom and outdoor fixtures which need to be rated for damp or wet locations depending on their placement.
